Bad credit
Can I get a mortgage with a CCJ?
Often, yes. A County Court Judgment makes it harder to get a mortgage, but it rarely rules it out completely.

What a CCJ means for a mortgage application
A County Court Judgment stays on your credit file for six years. Many high-street lenders decline applications automatically when they see one, because their decisions rely heavily on credit scoring.
A number of specialist lenders will consider applicants with CCJs, particularly where the judgment is older, smaller or has been paid.
How manual underwriting works
Specialist lenders use manual underwriting. Instead of relying on an automated score, an underwriter looks at your income and how stable it is, the circumstances behind the CCJ, and how you’ve managed your money since.
Why your rent history matters
If you’ve reliably paid £750 a month in rent for several years, that’s good evidence you can afford a £750 mortgage payment. The right lender will take it into account.
What to expect
Rates for bad credit mortgages are usually higher than standard deals at first. A common approach is to take a shorter deal, then remortgage onto a mainstream rate once your credit file has improved. We’ll plan that with you from the start.
